I have long thought that postal vehicle's would be ideal for electrification. Regenerative brakes are perfect for the stop and go of postal vehicles and being out in the daytime solar panel roofs would be excellent for powering them. The postal service would save billions on oil changes alone considering the gazillions of miles driven each year. Also after watching the insane orange clown and his posse dismantle the government in 6 months we need hourly lowdown issues to keep up with the insane stupidity of our elected Russian espionage agents of government.
This regime is the most Bankrupt, Corrupt, and Incompetent, and Dangerous group of goons and thugs America has ever seen. They are acting like two year olds whose only interest (thanks to their Project 2025) is to destroy as much of America as fast as they can and leave it in ruins. Every single one of them MUST be held accountable (no pardons, no forgiving, no forgetting, no letting them get away with it) for the damage and death and destruction they are doing to us all!!!
Jim, I too learned to drive backwards. There was a section of abandoned road near our place. It was overgrown, narrow and ended at the creek with no place to turn around. Dad put me in the Jeep pickup, four on the floor with a low ratio transfer case and four wheel drive selector. I would drive to the end of the road then back out to the start. Dad said when I figured out how to turn around at the end of the road I could go get my license. I finally figured out the four point turn, in four wheel drive and got my license. Ever since I have been able drive as well backward as forward, maybe even a bit better backing. Rich S, Octogenarian and Contrarian and agreeing with your candid view of this mess.
I think it's closer to "Republicans in Congress are driving down the North Central Expressway (or MoPac Expressway) with the pedal to the metal and wearing blinders over their eyes, and hoping that "The Force Will Be With Them" and trusting The Force to steer their car."
Except in the case of Congressional Republicans, "Force" is actually spelled with an "a": "Farce".
I'd be all for the going backwards if it would mean reviving New Deal style Dems so we workers would have an actively pro-labor party again. The Rs have to by-pass that populist pathway. They're an amalgam of techie anarcho-capitalists and Christofascists. The techies want to eviscerate all regulations since they're under the illusion they don't need human cooperation; workers are merely parts to be used. The Christofascists want to bring back their version of the 1950s, or better yet, the 1850s. Where the best ruled and the rest knew their place.
I own and drive an Electric Vehicle (EV). You want to know something funny...my lower back, hips and knees no longer hurt after driving the EV. Because the EV does not have an engine, there is no engine noise and VIBRATION. Everyone knows that the combination of vibration from the road surface and the engine is more than just additive. So, my EV spares me the aches I used to get when driving my older gas-powered vehicle. Plus the EV is super fast when I need it to be.
PS: Truck drivers will be healthier over time with electric trucks because...no engine noise and vibration!!
We have seen change for the good here in Gwinnett County, GA, thanks to the efforts of our great senator, Jon Ossoff. He has been relentless about the inefficiency and mismanagement of the postal service. The EV trucks are on our streets every weekday, and the drivers look comfortable and friendly even in 90-plus heat. Keep writing your congresspersons, even Republicans - they do want to be reelected!
Thank you so much! But here is some not so good news: one of Jon's possible rivals is Derek Dooley., a MAGA Republican with nice manners. If you live in Georgia, you know that U.of GA football is a religion and that Derek's daddy was Vince Dooley, a much idolized UGA football coach. That name is about Derek's only qualification. Pray for clearer heads to prevail!
The postal drivers in Florida don't have air conditioning. Betty told me more than once before she delivered the bars of chocolate syrup for my birthday
"...ask the postal workers who drive them. Go to apwu.com."
I'm not sure I understand all the details, but I believe APWU members work in and around post offices, while the people who drive the delivery trucks (and deliver the mail) are members of a separate union, NLCA.
And I'm waiting for Trump to declare that post office employees are doing National Security work, so their unions must be abolished.
Please America, do not forget that “privatization “ means the greedy people can take your property and make it unaffordable. Tell them to send themselves by airmail to Uganda!
Remember when Bush needed to privatize healthcare…… now we have no f__ cking healthcare. Your Medicare( you worked for that) is now drained by big greedy titans. Titans: means they think of themselves as better than you.
Another step in the complete ruination of the USPS! Even as a kid I was fascinated by the Post Office since the days of the Pony Express to letters being delivered to a ship at sea when my then husband was in the Navy. Not to mention the endorsement of Kris Kringle! I hate watching it be slowly destroyed. Greed and politics are destroying this once honored institution. Under the current criminal and inept administration it may just disappear. Along with many of our rights!
At every turn the Republican Party is literally killing people around the globe and in the United States with their draconian and ignorant policies. Cutting funding for USaid, solar and wind projects, vaccine and cancer research, just to name a few will literally cost people, mostly children, their health and lives. It’s a sad state of affairs that defies logic and comprehension. Cutting funding for electric postal vehicles is just a small, but typical example of that ignorance and disgusting affront to the American public.
Bye-bye Joni. You'll be dead one day as we all will, as you correctly pointed out in your recent empathy-laden town hall. In the meantime, universal healthcare is a lovely bonus against that day arriving later rather than sooner. You and your Republican compatriots might want to consider it as a plank in what is laughingly known as your party platform. ER visits in lieu of universal preventive healthcare is a rather expensive line item. You may want to consult a budget hawk on this for confirmation of how our tax dollars are spent on the social safety net.

That will just be Our Little Secret. 😇

Thank you once again for this heads up about what the crazies are up to.
apwu.org is correct website for postal workers union
I love these. MAGA must go. Off to write postcards for Virginia.

This is terrific news. Thanks😊🙏
Also good news about Ossoff. I just made a small donation to his campaign 😊

You were actually mild mannered, which I respect, when those Repugs are so amazingly ignorant. Trish Dayan

I suspect you are totally right except he wants whole service to no longer be for US But for another billionaire.
Campaign contributions: a euphemism for bribe today. Just another donation to the bottomless
slop pail of corporate greed and the brutalization of political morals; what left of them.
Not to mention that in 10 years EVs will likely be by far the cheapest vehicles to operate.
