Ya THINK!!!!!!!! Read "Burned By Billionaires: How Concentrated Wealth and Power are Ruining Our Lives and Planet" by Chuck Collins for the picture of how bad it is and what to do about it! And check out the Patriotic Millionaires for suggestions on how to fix our broken tax system that FAVORS the Wealthiest and Screws the rest of us all the time. patrioticmillionaires.org

i did that in my early 20's flat tax - but done by gradual % increases from at that time $12,000.00 no taxes to 30%. Now i would go with starting at $25,001 1% to 15$. Since uber millionaires do not pay any taxes - if they just paid 15% we would all benefit. And no deductions for anything but spouse and children.

The deep state consists of millionaires, billionaires, and wanabe trillionaires that control our government; augmented by Steven Miller (Trump's Hermann Goering) and ICE represents Trump's "Brown Shirts" terrorizing the public.

One way to mitigate this problem is to raise the tax brackets back to the 39 % or higher, require taxes on capital gains and carried interest, and institute an estate tax that is meaningful. That would force the uber wealthy to pay up and at the same time reduce our deficit and national debt. And while were at it, we should properly fund the IRS so they have the tools to extract the taxes our billionaires aren't paying.

Time is running out! One can't keep spending what one doesn't have. The same applies to governments.

How about 'No representation without fair taxation'

You can blame our US Supreme Court for all the money in politics today. They were the ones who opened the floodgates and pressure needs to brought to them to close those same gates. Until that happens the problem will persist. The wealthy elite could care less about being confronted as long as our money grubbing corrupted politicians keep their hands out and they keep filling them.

Vicious cycle: The Government sanctions the money and deficit spending, the Government sanctions the corporation, the Government gave corporations the right to speak in our elections with money, and the officials are elected to support whatever corporate plan to speak the biggest number of dollars and control US with money misery.

I heard that the ballroom construction on the White House has stopped because the workers haven't been paid and are not reporting to work anymore. Did their corporate employers go bankrupt and stiff them, as is the corporate way?

Patricia DeVea's avatar

Wow! I didn't even know about the status of "The Ballroom."

The change begins with voting out any politician who won’t answer the simple question put to them: “Will you accept corporate or wealthy donor money in your election campaign?” The sad fact is that in order for that to work it has to work for all involved and under our current system it, unfortunately, takes money to run in our extended campaign environment. If we ever had an election cycle that only ran for one year or less and the maximum contribution from any source was $5000 things would improve dramatically. Good luck with that.

Muskrat brought us Tyrant trump when he bought the last election for close to $300 million bucks. That's mucho bang for your buck.

We can upset that paradigm,by flushing the Orange Turd. That means showing up at the ballot box and voting his Trumpkins and MAGAts OUT!!!Neuter the bastard till the laws can be changed.

So happy to hear you recommend organizations I definitely support. Don't have much money, but I figure it all helps.

We have to change the corporate structure to emancipate ourselves from the money misery. A corporation exists only to make a pecuniary profit from harvesting the natural resources ( life supporting habitats of Earth) and no living being is held legally or financially responsible for anything that the corporation does. Getting corporate control of a government will cause the biggest numbers of dollars to go to the benefit of the corporate machine that has been the highest bidder for a particular government officials favors. This is the result of S.C.O.T.U.S. Citizens United decision of 2010, unbridled greed with no morality or concern regarding the ability of the planet to continue to support life and numerical price is placed on the priceless. Business as usual for the working class world to accept is the ' time is money' adage. Money only has power because people believe that it does. I guess that the 1929 stock market crash happened as a result of dependency on money and the extravaganza that having too much of it brings about. Watching 'The Great Gatsby's with Leonardo DiCaprio

Keep encouraging people to take action, Jim. The despair that come with reading daily atrocities is often overwhelming--having our "president" tell us that the only thing that can limit his power is his own mortality is beyond outrageous. But if we have any hope of restoring our democratic values in government, it is up to us. We MUST make sure the Blue Wave that woud enable a successful impeachment happens. Do not become complacent.

Ian thinks to himself, "Maybe the power of AI could be harnessed to figure out how to coordinate the efforts of organizations like Public Citizen, Our Revolution, Common Cause, The Brennan Center, and Move to Amend. It'd be like a union fighting to topple the oligarchy."

Then he thinks, "Can I trust AI? It's owned by the oligarchs..."

This sounds like a good plan to me without the AI.

Thanks. I agree about the AI part.
