Now that SCOTUS has determined that the president can't be held criminally responsible for any thing they do in office, Biden should "go nut's" and pass any bill to right the balance of SCOTUS. Another thing "stuck in my craw" is that some States have determined that the Bible must be taught in public schools and the ten commandments posted in all classrooms! My strong feeling about this is that now that there is no separation between church and state, that all churches in those states lose their tax exempt status and start paying taxes on their properties.

Absolutely!!! Tax the phony liars!

Totally agree we must protect the separation of church and state. If we go religious in schools we stand to damage children whose religions differ from the religious right's view.

Wait till Congress is in recess and appoint four more judges to the SCOTUS. The Constitution does not prescribe the number of justices and the number has changed at various times over the centuries. Shift the burden to the other side to undo it--or try to. I have been both Republican and Democrat, even Libertarian. I gave up and became independent because Dems seemed to operate as in the 2008 crisis exactly like Republicans using the same advisors that caused the crash from deregulation which required Americans to bail out defrauders.

First things first. Get firm control of both houses of congress and then go after those in long black robes and sticky fingers.

In the 2000 election, the vote being so close, the Supreme Court put Bush/Cheney in the Oval Office even though Gore/Biden won the National Popular Vote. I fear they'll do it again if we don't have a Landslide Election result

I have been studying the issues of the Koch's 50-year effort to turn the country into a plutocracy for decades using its important handmaiden the Federalist Society about which you published two articles. I discovered the nexus researching the theft of $30 million worth of oil from the Osage by the Kochs through "theft at the gauge." See Senate Report 101-216, 101st Cong., 1st Sess., "Inside the Koch Brothers' Toxic Empire, Rolling Stone Magazine, Sept. 2014. See also Mark Ames, Meet Charles Koch's Brain. The Leonard Leo articles you published were a goldmine. I have been following them since I read Martin Garbus's Courting Disaster: The Unmaking of American Law in which Indian law is used as a crucible for issues that interest the court: states' rights, pro-business and anti-human and civil rights of non plutocrats. I described the Trump administration as a plutocratic, oligarchic, kleptocratic kakistocracy (government by the worst for the worst). Now we are offered a return to autocracy spearheaded by the SCOTUS which sees itself as the font that is all-knowing and not the little men/women behind the curtain in OZ.

Yes! Elect sane people to Congress to make laws. The supreme court can't overturn the laws. Their job is to interpret the constitution and laws so we should make the laws very clear. We were riding a dangerous wave on Roe v Wade all along because it wasnt a law just an interpretation by a more liberal court.

I think we're sitting on a powder keg and SCOTUS has the matches. I fear all this is going to come to a head in the November election. Depending on the outcome we could be looking at WW3 but we won't be fighting on foreign soil but right here on US soil and the outcome will be disastrous for us all.

Decisions based on fear usually have disasterous outcomes. WWll was the last war we were involved in that was declared by Congress. Since then we have been involved in "Military Actions" by the President of the United States of America

The Heritage Foundation president would like it to be a revolution, which would be peaceful if liberals allow it. 🤬 No to their Project 2025!

I think it's important to try and change minds where someone is even a little receptive. A friend was leaning towards voting for the orange orangutang in 2016 'because of Benghazi and the emails". A couple of well-reasoned discussions brought her back to her senses

Re SCOTUS: Isn't aiding and abetting a criminal a criminal act?

The SCOTUS situation is certainly dire! Please don't discount FEAR as a driver of consumer discontent about our justice system. Grinding Fear that Trump might win and enact explicit harm to our world. This Fear is paralyzing and no one seems able to give it the heave ho, except President Biden. But no, the press and pundits seem to be undercutting Biden. Why? Do they have a death wish or are they toadying up to Trumpism, so they'll avoid Trump"s revenge?

Let's go find some other news, such as climate disaster so much worse with Trump. Find something that will unlock the FEAR and make us earn the epithet: Home of the Brave!

If anyone is inclined to call SCOTUS, their number is 202 479 3011. (You can block your # if you want by hitting *67, then waiting for 2 beeps, then a dial tone) You can just leave a message or your info for a call-back. Use Option 3 for the clerk.

A vote for Trump is a vote to kiss our country goodbye. Trump does to give a damn about anyone or anything (like the justices he appointed who LIED at their confirmation hearings with their - No One Is Above the Law BS - that came out of their lying mouths) but himself and he will lie to get what he wants, just he did yesterday when he said he didn't know anything about PROJECT 2025. His buddies wrote it!!! And you know damn well he will implement it if he wins. Reagan implemented about 3/4 of the plan that he was given when he took office and this is as BAD as it could possibly be! (If you have not read Project 2025 you better and fast before it is too late to fight back! It has terrible things for everyone in America. NO ONE will escape it's terror!) AND then watch all hell break out in America as even his blind and deaf supporters see themselves stripped of their freedom and rights and liberty..... Every Republican in every election everywhere needs to be defeated. "Everything Trump touches dies" and he and Republicans are a THREAT to your FREEDOM, HEALTH, WEALTH & SAFETY!!

I've been trying to think of an appropriate comment but I was stumped until now.

Various iterations of The Supreme Court have been a disaster from Day 1. Don't forget that they have often shown little regard, if not contempt, for the word "person". They famously ruled that "slaves" could be owned as property and recently ruled that 'corporations" are the equivalent of people (persons presumably". Soon it will be the "fertilized human egg". Gore v Bush was of course, the most recent and most blatant whack at the notion of Democracy and the rule of law. Without any legal justification, they actually STOPPED the counting of votes in the already IQ challenged state of Florida and gave us the dimwit known as George W. Jim! As an agricultural expert I'm sure that you would understand my mother's declaration to me as a child that, "What do you expect from a pig but a grunt?" It gave me a whole new view of life as it was and still is. Shame on anyone who could believe the utterances of any Republican sponsored candidate for the Judiciary.

Jim Baker, former and still, financial fixer for Republican Grandees proudly said, regarding his vote for the re-election of Trump, that "You never want to give up the "Levers" of government. In other words, I'll take any dumb bastard that I can, as long as people like me can control him. Controlling a 'her" would have never entered his mind.

Anyway, I hate to repeat myself. But" We are doomed."

Biden should have the justices who voted for immunity arrested and put in jail for 2 weeks and say, "I'm only doing this to demonstrate the wrongness of this decision."

People who are disappointed, disillusioned, frustrated by our choices for President MUST remember that this election is about more than the President. At least two, possibly three of these right-wing justices will be elderly (yes, I know, Joe Biden--put that aside for now) during the next presidential term. A vote for president is also a vote for their replacement on SCOTUS. If you care about our democracy and want to re-establish the integrity of the court that is supposed to protect us from tyrants, DO NOT SIT OUT THIS ELECTION.. For me, if the Democrats ran a glazed donut against Donald Trump, I would vote for it. But we don't have to make that choice. We have a successful functioning president running for re-election, and vice president who is experienced and capable. I know, Harris is not charismastic, but at this point in history charisma is the last thing we should consider when making our choice.

Increasing the size of the court is a potential solution, but only if it is done wisely, without an intention of gaining power and influence ( as the last three appointments would caution ). A thirteen member court would mirror the 13 federal court districts, as the original nine reflected the nine federal districts at the time it was created.

How about charging several recent appointees with contempt of Congress as they lied under oath when testifying before the Senate and subcommittees about not going against established law? This would apply to Alito, Gorsuch, Barrett and the beer loving misogynist whose name I don’t remember. It would apply to Thomas too, but the statute of limitations has probably expired. None of these were qualified based on their judicial record.

Yes, the Heritage Foundation and Federalist Society at work over the years. Accomplishing some of their goals (see Project 2025) via their Supreme Court picks, and circuit court picks. It’s already happening!

Let’s get Biden to appoint 2 or 4 more SC justices, which would be more fitting these days. We must ensure a solid Democratic majority in the Senate to assist in that process.

The only reason this works is because we all agree to it. $CROTUS has clearly abrogated that agreement and sadly our sclerotic leadership is hobbled by decades of comity so it's not likely to change. But hope springs eternal.
