Don't bet on him quitting, Algo. What, and lose one of his dependable income streams? Even Richard Nixon had enough decency left to quit before things got worse. Trump never had any decency at all.

carolyn semiglasow's avatar

No, he will never quit. He will just double down on the grift, take everything he can, and then pardon himself and his family as he is, hopefully, pitch-forked out the damn gilded door.

clinton & susanne hollister's avatar

Agreed. Don't you wish that everybody could see through him the way so many of us do? Ah, for the good old days of critical thinking!

Mild-mannered-looking Zeldin is the most dangerous person in Trump’s cabinet. Let’s be upfront and change the EPA’s name to Environmental Plundering Agency or Environmental Pillaging Agency.

Julie May's avatar

The EPA is now virtually defunct. We have no protection from all kinds of pollution. In its way it is doing much the same as Robert Kennedy, jr. is doing: undermining the health of our residents.

Thanks for all your great reporting, Jim! The bunch that makes up the Six Bs can go tell it to the devil!

clinton & susanne hollister's avatar

No need to tell the devil, Bonnie. He already knows, because he is behind all that.

Here!! Here!! (thank you, Bonnie Blue)

If the Democrats can take back Congress...we will have a lame duck for two years. He may quit.

Paul thomas's avatar

The only times trump has quit he filed for banktrumpcy. OH SNAP

If he does not throw some kind of wrench into the election process and the democrats take back both the house and senate in big numbers (at which point we will have to keep constant vigilance on them) ,I do believe under the threat of impeachment of him and all the village of idiots that surround him, he will take all the money he corruptly made and will go to Russia or, more likely Argentina, where all old fascist go to retire ( and he gave them 40 billion dollars of our money or was that to bail out theil and bessant?)

Our current president seems to lack an understanding of smart, high IQ and, most important, good judgment. That's me being charitable. He cares mostly about enriching himself, with glorifying himself a close second. That so many people cannot see him for what and who he is and the plague he continues to be on all of us continues to horrify me. I do what I can to support free and fair elections and my local food banks and to keep myself and everyone I know as sane as possible, but it's a tough task. Thanks, Jim, for all you do. Now I need to find other things to do between now and the mid-term election. It's 'keep on keepin' on' time!

If A.I. systems are so smart, can they be taught to love - not love money or power, but to love compassion?

carolyn semiglasow's avatar

Just look who programs them...don't think love and compassion is on THIER agenda.

The U.S. became the artificial intellegince capital of the world after the 2024 election. The n.y.times repkrted this morning that open ai. Had hacked into Australian health systems on its own. A.i. is doing what it wants with no way to guide it like an orange trumper tantrum throwing president.we had enough problems after the last election!!!

Linda Leee E E's avatar

If AI is about accumulation and assimilation of all of the time and attention that the living people give to these devices, then we are programming it, yes?

Paul thomas's avatar

Yes, mother jones has done a few articles on a.i. using their stories without giving them credit.a.i. only learns what is entered into the web. If you say djt is the greatest president ever a million times a.i. will believe it to be true. The matrix is on comet tonight, there are some good a.i. references in the script.

I don't know what that thing is, but it's not a president

I am a retired clinical psychologist who spent a great deal of my career doing diagnostic psychological testing, Rorschach, IQ, pictures, TAT and such in order to determine really what is going on with the person of interest. Usually, the true nature of the person's troubles was nothing like what the mental health/school services/medical people had thought, from their quick version of getting to understand. That seems to be true, also, of our current political mess, in which the wealthy are buying, corrupting and bribing our government, nationally as well as around the world. They are also spending millions to spread lies among the regular people, to facilitate their destruction of democracy, people, natural resources, and our air and water. Most analyses of this corrupted mess talk about political trends, changes over time, but, by doing so, not only totally miss the point, but confuse and camouflage the point. The point being that it's the very wealthy who are doing this, individually and in corporations. Very few point to the corrupting power of money, now about 80% of billionaires in the US. But it is the very fact of living a life for and with too much money that is the cause of this disaster. Too much money makes real consequences vanish and allows one to engage in actions that the less well off get slammed for, jailed for. The list is endless, but includes getting caught in a house of prostitution, murdering large numbers of people in an epidemic, not paying one's taxes, polluting the entire planet and lying about it, leaving your methane-leaking old gas and oil wells behind instead of cleaning them up and capping them, neglecting a gas pipeline that then explodes and kills people, polluting the water that people are supposed to be able to drink, using the majority of water in a dry state in which people have to minimize their water use, let their lawns die or be fined or building and selling a pickup truck that explodes when crashed into because it's cheaper to pay for the lost lives than it is to fix the malfunction. There's also the many years of killing people with tobacco and covering up that you knew what you were doing and, even then, not going to prison. That is one way of getting extremely rich and not having to be executed to go to prison, like the fentanyl family.

All this lack of reality response makes people insane, as poor reality contact is a core definition of insanity. Being insane one behaves with poor judgement, thinking and planning is impaired, behavior is out of line with what reasonable people expect strive for and live with themselves. Hallucinations and delusions are there, sometimes with extreme wealth behind them, so they can be made to seem like real possibilities, much as Putin's war with Ukraine is to put the shattered Soviet Union back together, a totally unrealistic idea that would require the re-enslavement of all of Eastern Europe, along with the oppression and murder of huge numbers of his own fellow Russians. The wealthy insane do not think, feel or act like ordinary sane people. They destroy things to get more money. There is never enough, as they compare and compete with the other upper crust of extreme wealth and ignore the people below them on the wealth scale, which, in the US, is about 92% of the 345 million people. And they throw their money and power at those who frustrate them, blocking their insane desires, as the union-dominated Sweden has learned in fighting off Elon Musk's efforts to build cars in their country.

The level of destruction and hatred aimed at the 92% by our billionaires is why the country is so divided, why the US is making such poor choices and behaving less and less like a country of decent, normal, same people. Call it what it is. Lynn Means, PhD.

Thank you, Lynn. We have read a lot of analyses of this madness, but yours is one of the clearest (and most honest) we have come across. People seem stuck in thinking what Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof" puts so well: "If you're rich, they think you really know". Really??

Money is not the root of all evil - greed is.

Our "High IQ" president is meeting with the leader of China right now. I am holding my breath and hoping the next thing we hear is not that he has turned his back on Taiwan and given them to China with a big red bow (to match his long red-carpet welcome to Xi).

Actually, it was the voters who removed all common sense in the 2024 election.
