Agree, and besides the ideas is preposterous. Between temperatures that kill, radiation levels that will sicken everyone who tries, an atmosphere that is unbreathable, and lacking any SciFi miracle terraforming device, our future on Mars will be nasty, brutish, and less than short. Given it's only taken about the last 300 years to destroy so much of our planet, how long do you think it would take humans to destroy Mars environment if they were to colonize it?
On top of that, how would humans produce the many simple but essential products that are made from oil and petroleum products, such as plastics, batteries, cleaning products, medicines, inks, lubricants, medical equipment and supplies, fertilizers, rubber products, synthetic fibers, and hundreds of other items that are derived from oil. All that would have to be shipped from earth - and how much would that cost? What would be the price of a simple comb for your hair?

And the drain on earth resources would exceed by a hundred times, what it would take to sustain the same population on earth. Yup, the rapid increase in climate disasters has something to do with the rapid increase in rocket launches in the last decade. We would annihilate Earth's atmosphere just to get what's needed to Mars. Last year I watched space truckers with Dennis Hopper, this is the best depiction of what space travel will be like. After arriving at space port with his load of pigs that have grown square in their cages on the trip from Earth, he is offered half price ,take it or take it back to Earth. The pay toilets are back along with pay. Mirrors,pay sinks and pay everything but oxygen and there is probably an admission charge for breathing.
