I don’t believe a man worth 200 billion dollars cares so much about 13 billion. I think it is much darker than that. I think he fears that Trump will set the whole power of Federal Govt. against his businesses and him personally. I think it isn’t greed. It’s cowardice
While the Chicago Tribune, also owned by Bezos, did not endorse, the editors not-so-subtlely made reference to all of their previous editorials so that readers could easily realize that they would have encdorsed Harris, had they not been prevented from doing so. Still, why not just rebel and actually do it!
Time to make severe changes to how we continue to endow these billionaires with even more money and power. Also, it is illustrative of how the mighty money influences our political campaigns. High time to enact campaign finance reforms, a bit like the limitations Canada has sense enough to employ.
Cancelled subscriptions to the newspaper toy has very little, if any, real impact on Bezos. Limiting his power, and taxing him, properly is an answer.
I love the Post's reader comment: “If you don’t have the guts to run a newspaper, don’t buy one.” Bezos is, indeed, a "weasel" in a very evil sense for our society.
It takes courage and "guts" to stand for what you believe, and for what one believes to be right. I learned at an early age that "money talks", and Bezos has proven that once again. Some individuals would sell their soul for a buck. Seems there are more of them than I would have guessed!
It was a calculated strategic decision by Bezos. If he endorsed Harris and Trump won, Trump would vindictively take away all those shiny government contracts. But he can't have the paper endorse Trump, regardless of who wins, since that would be the end for WaPo, and more importantly would make it impossible for Bezos to continue to pretend he is an evolved, caring, deep-thinking person welcome among the intellectual elite at Davos every year. Even The Economist, for ------ sake, endorsed Harris (if reluctantly).
I have to say, when I first read the reasons Bezos gave for not endorsing either side, I thought, there is some truth that the paper will appear biased if it picks a side. Kind of refreshing to be unbiased. Then I started reading the back story. Boy was I unrefreshed.
This is a great expose, and I am one of the 250,000. But I would find it much easier to share with friends if I could get it into WhatsApp. Is this doable?
The only problem with canceling a Washington Post subscription is that one can't actually cancel. Since subscriptions are paid a year in advance, the best one can do is not renew. That may mean that no financial hit, nor reduction in subscribers, is noticed for months.
Does anyone know where to find the intended WaPo editorial endorsing Harris? I agree with the anti-Bezos sentiments, and billionaire takeover of politics poses a terrible menace. But I'm not going to stop reading the Post, which has a lot of terrific, informative and well-researched articles and many stimulating opinion writers. Just imagine, we may not all agree with everything President Harris will say or do, but that doesn't mean we cancel her, does it?
It's a depressing feeling to know that one of the richest persons on the planet cowers in front of a vengeful candidate. What a sellout! Do we need to chip in to send Mr Bezos to Oz to get a spine.

I think it's both greed and cowardice. Brown Bird " Place your bets on the limits of the beasts appetite and the loser buys all"
Today is the last day to vote for your money or your life.

Oh for the good old days when Mrs. Graham was the boss!

My own comment, when I dropped my subscription, was "Bezos, be a man, not a Bozo."
I think that the important thing is what Bezos makes his newspapers print after the election

Bezos, Musk, Gates, Buffet and other oligarchs chose cowardice and autocracy over democracy.
