Listen now (2 mins) | Is this how we celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Week?
Well, ya know, it's simple, really. Those old Robber Barons and their contemporary 1%er heirs figured it out. Public education didn't just turn out workers with the industrial skills needed to produce even more profits for the very rich. These ingrate peasants also did pesky things like vote and form labor unions.
I think we are totally topsy turvey on the way we budget our money. Our very first priority should be educating our young - just all like the other mammals in the world. Public education is mandatory. How else can children learn about the world outside their cocoon? They need to learn the real history of our world. They need to learn about people who are not like themselves. They need to learn about how our government works. They need to learn about how to operate as a grown up human being. We should pay teachers commensurate with their importance to society - which is huge. Special needs should be considered within the public school system.
Sadly too true.
An educated populace that can think critically is a danger to certain politicians and power brokers. I don't even know or understand how the Magats got the way they are. Must have been some ineffective educators or unattentive students a while back.
