There will always be people like DeSantis around. What bothers me the most is that there are a majority of people in Florida who supported him. If he gets elected again, then the only people I can empathize with are the ones who opposed him from the beginning and are now trapped there.

Please check out a prescient song written some thirty years ago by the brilliant bassist Jay Leonhart "Goodbye, Miami." Already its streets flood with the slightest rain. Poor Florida. Choices have consequences.

We used to love visiting Florida (being its neighbor to the north), but we do not recognize what it has become. Praying for a Blue Wave to wash away the filth, or the ocean to swallow it up - whatever comes first. For the sake of the good people living there, we are hoping for the Blue Wave. Does anyone else think that Ron looks like a reptile? (Apologies to reptiles.)

Now that you mention it... I've suspected similar of Trump for years. Look at the odd skin tones, unconvincing hair, and inhuman behavior. The ultra right wing conspiracy theorists who shriek about UFOs and banker/govt collusion, invasions of hostile Reptilians, and aliens who appear to be human unless you look very, very closely may have a point.

You noticed it too? Thanks for letting us know. Heaven help us if the reptile with the Day-Glo facial skin becomes president again!

Yeah. It's not as if the current Prez, unlike Trump, doesn't object to Ukrainian neo-Nazi troops. (Really not "neo"; Stepan Bandera supporters fought for the German side in WWII.) A Dem Prez would never have neocons trained by Dick Chaney running the State Dept. Never mind the current ones who have no problem talking up nuclear war. Whatever it takes to preserve Empire. There should be more room once undesirables like in Gaza are removed.

Anyone in the media who mentions this will be deplatformed or worse. Let Assange serve as a warning. The NYT will tell us all that we lessers need to know and what we should believe.

The Ds, despite being neolibs in favor of the econ status quo and funded by corporations, would never support an econ system that considers human and natural resources to be externalities, irrelevant things to be used up for corporate profits. Their powerful defense of us workers has been overwhelming.

The Rs are the autobahn to oblivion. But the D elite is headed in the same direction; just along a slow, winding route where not all the scenery has been destroyed yet. I'm not too sure which is worse-- a result where the destruction will be obvious to everyone, or passively going along with the Potemkin political party trying to hide it.

What is worse, or rather the worst, appears to be - as you describe it - passively going along. Whether we go along with one party or the other, once we give up thinking and acting for ourselves, we are lost. As for the current choice: do we support a 78 year old cult leader and convicted criminal who has sworn to make himself emperor, or do we stick with the decent 81 year old guy who is at least trying to keep us on track?

Considering how low-lying Florida is, this will be very quickly solved.

One more thing. Remember when republicans were big supporters of local rule? Well, local rule is enshrined in the Florida state constitution. But it can be overruled by state law. So, when a Florida community imposes mask mandates or bans plastic straws in restaurants, the state can ban the mandates or bans. That is what DeSantis and his complacent legislature has been doing left and right. Florida gets what it votes for. It can undo this if it wants to.

As Florida winter residents, we’ve seen first hand the DeSantis effect. Good summary. Before this all was his covid policies, all in the name of freedom. Yes, the freedom to die. Strange since his state has such a huge senior population that was and continues to be most affected by covid. Lastly, Florida coastal housing still has lots of septic tanks. So, when sea levels rise, so does the groundwater level. Yes, surface flooding is unpleasant but overflowing septic tanks? Between the rising costs of wind insurance in Florida, the higher costs of condo living due to long due changes resulting from the collapse of the Surfside condo some years ago, and raw sewage bubbling up in your front yard, Florida may lose its desirability as a retirement destination.

An "upwelling of deSantis" should be popularized as a synonym for septic overflow.

Some years ago, after the anti-gay hysteria of Sen. Rick Santorum, the gay advice columnist Dan Savage (who started the "It Get Better Project") suggested saying "Santorum" as a synonym for a certain by-product of gay sex. Not only a useful neologism, but also a wonderful put-down of prejudice and ignorance.

Jim, thx for the update. Looks like DeSantis has surpassed his crackpot self.

This is readying to be a record-setting, quite possibly historic hurricane season.

After Florida gets smacked with multiple category five hurricanes, President Biden should tell the tin pot potentate it’s HIS problem, so DeSatan can fix it — and then Biden should build a wall between Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

Thank God for term limits in Florida! DeSantis is a lame duck and cannot be governor after 2026. Hopefully, some sanity will return after he leaves office. I have been a public school teacher under Jeb Bush, Rick Scott and now DeSantis. Each one gets progressively worse.

That description of Ron DeSantis and his policies hit the nail on the head. The sad part about all this is that when he runs for governor again he will probably win another term.

What possess some people thst they support Trump? Are they stupid or just bored? Maybe they think Trump will reimburse them for their support. Either with cushy jobs or outright cash if they threaten their neighbors? (Suckers says Trump)
