The Nation Magazine did a huge write up on this book. I don't want to sound alarmist, but, to me, this is a huge change in the way this country has gone during its entire history.

After blocking and delaying Obama’s nominations. Trump would be the vindictive dictator, and it wouldn’t stop with Day Obe. We already know he thinks the law doesn’t apply to him. Imagine the chaos and medieval messes we may witness.
Certainly has presented the politic differently, but we had Walt Disney World on Sunday nights to give us our dramatic History etc. Johnny Tremaine was my idea of the American Revolution 1776. Electricity and the transport system have had huge affects on culture and Society. We need to upgrade the old rules for good health and budget improvement for our community well being instead of the the money misery. Deare God help us.

President Biden has awakened all who heard his Detroit presentation 12 July to elements of the Project 2025. They were scary. The projects are obviously designed to change our democracy to an autocracy of the rich, influential, Christian nationalists, corporations with #45 their leader. This bodes horribly for the U.S. Democracy. Among other things, we all need to bone up on the details of Project 2025.
Here's our Saving Grace: there are a LOT more of us democrats than republicans or independents and we will survive--and we will thrive! AI will die a monumental death, as most of us don't trust it, and don't want it, and we are not about to let a computer rule the planet!
And here's Plan B: pray!

The Plant Kingdom is growing much faster given the extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Living under trees is so beautiful and lifts your Spirit because of the higher oxygen output. The biggest problem with so many playgrounds is there aren't enough shade trees on the swings, etc.
I lived through the Joe McCarthy era - in fact, he was from hometown, Appleton WI, and I know (about) where his grave is - and I never thought I'd live long enough to see an even greater threat to the democratic process. But, here it is. I used to respect the Heritage Foundation for its (mostly or sometimes) genuine conservative ideas, but it seems like now HF, like so many alt right persons and groups, have "drunk the cool-aid," as we say. Worrisome, scary and beyond.

It was written by an author of 2025 and he said it wasn't what democrats were making it to be without saying anything about the plan at all. I’ve wondered if this is what it was like in Germany, as the Nazi regime came on…. My problem is that you’re proposing that voting for a Democrat is the solution, and there’s little to inspire confidence in a party so consumed with the desire to maintain this duopoly—and the concentration of political power by a few elites and corporate donors—that it routinely works against democracy by crushing progressive alternatives. Truly a dystopian shit show.
Rebecca, this was not the way in Germany. First off, Germany never had anything like a democracy in all of its long history. The first feeble attempt, the Weimar Republic (1919-1933) was doomed because a) the country was crushed by defeat in WW I, and b) this was followed by the Great Depression (which was as bad there as it was here, only worse, because there were no leaders or resources for recovery). The short-lived Republic had no fewer than a dozen parties, all pulling in different directions, making it easy for "der Fuehrer" to become the "savior" - or the strongman who promised to "make Germany great again". People desperately wanted to believe him because they were, well, desperate. Hitler was an accomplished liar, and no one (including the U.S.) suspected what he was planning all along - the rest is well known. All attempts at getting rid of him - and there were quite a few - came too late; resistance leaders paid with their lives. A two-party system is not a bad thing in itself. It works in Britain, France, and most Western nations. If it does not seem to work here, we must look deeper for the roots of this evil. Jim is doing a great job explaining what is happening now, by looking at what went before. Keep spreading the word, Hightower! We have shared this post, and we hope it will help.
First of all, I was musing on the sense of inexorable drift towards authoritarianism in this so-called democracy—not specifically as you’ve described Germany. And no—look again at at your examples of Western nations who have “successful” two-party systems—they have endured years of truly crappy governance by dominant conservative parties, but with recent elections have shown signs of change due to the public outrage…finally…. Here, our electoral system is incredibly rigged against voters who want more choice than the lip-service to democracy offered by the establishment…as witnessed by the sham-primary contest orchestrated by the DNC.
We were addressing your musings about Nazi Germany, just for perspective. And the very fact that those Western nations have emerged from their years of conservative dominance and are now able to turn around (still with 2 parties) looks like - albeit modest - success. Our question is: if they can do it, why shouldn't the U.S. be able to do it? Ah, there's the rub!
