This model of Community-based/owned cooperatives could /should evolve as truly NEW economic model for both Worker and Consumer (renters, food buyers, etc.) groups: Let's bring the Spanish Cooperative model "The Mondragon model" to AMERICA. iT IS THE ALTERNATIVE to the billionaire class ultimately owning everything in America.

You are always on top of it Jim. Pervert Ekwacky is more dangerous under cover than any other threat we face. Look at my medicare nemissis Optum. They own more private practice medical offices than doctors. Pharmacys. Yada Yada Yad... fknshit!

Got to keep the no-name low-lifes under our thumbs. No even breaks for people who don't have enough money.

As a proud Mainer, thanks for reminding folks that progressive action is still possible. My uncle spent a career turning apartment complexes into co-ops, and in later years began doing this with mobile home parks, including one about 20 years ago in Waldoboro, Maine. Yay for the Pine Tree State to pass a law allowing responsible resident ownership in a state where real estate prices are soaring.

Good for them! A park in Wareham, MA has done the same thing, a co-op community.

Many years ago NV made trailer lot real property, so trailers & mfg homes (different from each other but under the same inspectors) are on real property, no more perk owners

Thanks, Jim. This is vicious and has been going on for some time....

ROCUSA.org is exactly how we arranged the financing to buy our own community in Carver, MA over 12 years ago. The overall improvement in the conditions there have been impressive.

We were able to do this because the state has a right of first refusal law, so that when a company known for buying communities like ours and turning them into luxury oases for the rich tried to buy it, the owner had to give us a chance to come up with a similar offer. We did.

Something that should be on the housing agenda is that every state should have a similar law.

I used to work for a state that has had a similar program for a long time. The mobile home residents need to also make sure they charge themselves enough for maintenance so the parks don’t eventually become unsafe. They also will probably need to hire a manager who knows the building crafts and codes - and is of course, honest.

Our city of Charlottesville met the challenge of one of these buyers and purchased the mobile home park. But these same wealthy land grabbers have ruined our cool university main street with their ugly high rise buildings and traffic back ups.

Seems like a glimmer from Maine, but low wattage! The machinations of the greedy rich against the powerless lower classes have always been condemned, but continually improved upon for greater profit to the wealthy. It’s a poor commentary on our country, that such a large percentage of people must make homes in this manner. Even more troubling is the growing number of Americans that choose to live in rvs parked in lots, or other out of the way places. We need a sincere shakeup of our distribution of wealth! In the richest country on earth , to have such homelessness, substandard living conditions, and poverty, while the Elons and one percenters build greater wealth, is more than a shame. It’s inhumane and damn near criminal! We need a new every man’s political party to fight for our rights.
