Willie Nelson, a very lively 89-year-old, has recorded a playful little tune refuting speculation by some that he had become the late Willie Nelson. Not so fast, protested the people’s troubadour, singing:
When I read that the Observer was calling it a day, I was reminded of a course that Ronnie Dugger and I had the good fortune to attend at UT circa 1950. Dr Bob Montgomery was the Economics professor -- was he ever ! -- preaching one of his favorite messages. Technological change is inevitable as it is inherent in one of the three universal traits of man -- his tendency to "fiddle with his gadgets" as Dr. Montgomery put it. Wiggling those bushy gray eyebrows, with a twinkle in his eye, he paused a few seconds and then rewarded us with a message that has served me well for over 70 years: "You are going to have to be damned fast on your feet or the accelerating pace of technological development will leave you behind."
We have plenty of(gifted) voices, not enough ears. Listen with your hearts and offer helping hands as you can...Where have all the flowers gone?
