I long ago soured on "Big AG." The consolidation of farms into corporations has resulted not just in higher prices, appalling working conditions, and inferior product. I refuse to buy Smithfield (owned, BTW, by China), Tyson, Hormel, and other mega corps that abuse their workers, produce a product that is certainly not what we used to expect, and gouge the consumer. When I can buy from local farms, I do. When I cannot, I do without. And eggs--I use fewer, but buy pasture raised. If we stop supporting these monsters, they will either get with it, or go out of business.
