All those firecrackers on July 4 got me thinking about the headline revolutionaries who signed the 1776 Declaration, fought the Brits for independence, hammered out the Constitution and installed our Bill of Rights.
I've thought a lot about the similarities and differences between the parties/candidates of today and the past. I think Andrew Jackson could certainly fit in with Trump's GOP and I think John Quincy Adams would definitely fit with the corporate Dems.
Good post, Jim. A bright spot in today’s situation, one might venture, is that none of the current hopefuls presenting themselves for consideration are slave holders, wage slavery aside.
Running for office, as you mention, has become a pay to play endeavor, with corporate support in big bucks requiring that candidates who accept that support serve corporate interests ahead of the greater and less wealthy public.
It’s a sad sort of progress that an entrenched class divide fueled by underregulated capitalism is inhabited by people of all races on both sides.
