Leave it to religious bigots to try to collar the rest of us to be their life long serfs. Religion is about control.

Religion is about MONEY AND POWER.

Religions, all religions, are tied to a set of events witnessed by our ancient ancestors that became the religions and or ideas about a so called "god" that doesn't really even exist. Churches/religions use this to empty our pocketbooks and fill our minds with hate and prejudice and if they have their way they will hand in hand be responsible for humanities destruction, but only here on the Earth!

The Mormon Church is tied to an event said to have occured on American soil (Palmyra, New York). Joseph Smith, early 20's, had been treasure hunting in the woods along with others, and claimed that an Angel appeared to him and told him where Golden Plates were buried that, when translated, would tell the true story of Christ's church. Moroni is replicated in gold atop every Mormon temple, poised to announce the Second Coming. (I'll let you know if I hear anything.).

When Smith was finally allowed to dig them up, he received a "key" or something that enabled the writing on the Tablets to be translated. They contained a long list of begats and blah, blah, (Book of Morman). Basically, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In less than 200 years, numbers of believers has reached (worldwide) 17.5 million and said to be on the road to a worth, in known holdings, $1 Trillion by 2044, with a membership of about 17.5 million.

If you wonder why Amazon workers aren't paid more, tell me why there are Mormons (worldwide) living in poverty.

You never know--the group of Texans Jim describes, backed by a couple of right-wing billionaires (like one who gave us a Senator, now Vice president , may just start something!

You got it! When we take a closer look at the big picture we find that there are over 129,000 Christian denominations in the U.S., er I mean Trump Town, and all of them claim to be the only one's who "know the truth" and everyone else will be going to hell for their transgressions. None of them, and or any other religion, have any idea at all about how religions are actually destroying us.

They're fighting over what name to call God, exclusively but God's name is all names and such religious arguments are pointless divisions that give power to fear mongering and money

God is too vast to fit into only one narrow religious belief. It's really about what one chooses to believe it or not

Rolland and Billy,

Religion can be good if

1. kids and women are not abused and

2. hate is not taught and

3. morals are taught.

The First Amendment’s Free Exercise Clause forbids Congress from prohibiting the free exercise of religion.

I say that Right To Life and Right To Choice are two religions which should be allowed to coexist.

This is a very disconcerting time in our country. This attitude is not only in Texas but all the way to the White House. I do not know what we as a country can do except speak out constantly and loudly to confront those who are trying so hard to turn our country into a dictatorship.

I agree absolutely. Unfortunately the mid terms are 2 years away and the Presidential election is 4 years away. A lot of devastating harm can be done in that time. We also need to focus on the State elections and elect those who will truly work for the people. Thank you for your response.

Before he died, a Nobel Prize winning physicist from UT once said, “With or without religion good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil, that takes religion.” - Steven Weinberg

Perceptive. I had a psychiatrist friend who believed that most evil in the world has been carried out in the name of religion. I largely agree, but there have been ideological holocausts too (Hitler, Stalin) in more recent history.

Hypocrites, mostly, all the way to the White House. None of them would have supported the historical Jesus if they lived in his time; He was a radical Jew, and they would support the crucifiction.

Unlikely that these extreme right wing so-called Christians and their "Chosen Ones" in the Texas Legislature, Governor's Mansion, the White House and Congress have ever subscribed to or held their lawmakers accountable at the voting booth to the values of Jesus reflected in Matthew 25:31-46 regarding the "Least of My Brethren" or in the Our Father that Jesus taught us to pray to live those values: "Your Will be done ON EARTH as it is in Heaven"!

These self-proclaimed "Christian Nationalists" are so far removed from anything that resembles genuine Christian belief that their assertions and behavior can actually be called blasphemy. Have none of them read Matthew 25?? We will be judged by how we treat other people, Including "the stranger". Please do not blame all Christians: billions of Christians over 2 milliniums have tried, still try to live honest, charitable and generous lives. It really hurts to be dumped into the same opinion basket with hateful people. I believe in a GOD that is TRUTH, GOODNESS AND BEAUTY.

Well, “Onward Christian Soldiers, marching as to war….”! Wish there were a means of getting them to march against each other, and out of our presence. Nothing can’t be made more ineffective by a dose of religiosity. Don’t see them tirelessly working for the betterment of the people, do you?
