My grandfather, Frank H. Miller, ran for office in the 1930s as a Progressive. The county he ran in is now one of the reddest in Wisconsin. The family is still among the few Progressives left there.
Yeah! Fighting Bob LaFollette. Us Wisconsinites remember him with great fondness. He did a lot to advance progressive values in the state before reactionaries started deconstructing his accomplishments.
Damn!! I was in Madison today & I could have come to see you had I known! It would have been my second time in almost 30 years. The other time was in a Santa Barbara church in the middle 90's. I hope it went well.
We do need a new party, unless sane people can somehow take over one or the other of the big ones. Convince all the MAGA morons that drinking antifreeze will keep you from getting COVID or bird flu? (It will; dead people don't get sick) Make all the Democrats study the bloody history of the USSR and Red China? Doubt if it would change their minds on Govt overreach.
At least some Repubs want to ban all abortions. Most Democrats wan to ban all semi automatic arms, even though you are more likely to be killed by STRANGLING than with a scaaary looking black-stocked rifle.

Thought: If AR's had pretty pink or lavender stocks instead of black stocks, liberals wouldn't think they were scaaary and always try to ban them. If AR's had rainbow striped stocks and the log GayR -15, liberals would want to make owning them mandatory! ( You suppose i could have a WW II era Garand instead?)
Wisconsin's Progressive Magazine may be carrying on the legacy of Fighting Bob and Young Bob and their Progressive Party, but I'm afraid the state has lost its progressive tradition.
